Astute observers will notice that I haven’t installed the faucet and trim, but this is plenty close for an series of before - during and after photos of the bathroom project.

  3. Laminate, schmaminate.  You break my heart, g.  The floor is smooth-finished 12x12 marble tiles.  The shower surround whopping 18x18 tiles (1/2 thick) with a satin-type finish to them that’s very attractive in person.  Overall, they’re a lot lighter and brighter (cream-colored, not tannish) than the final picture shows.

The color doesn’t really come through in the original pictures either, but that floor tile was ORANGE.  The walls were also painted orange.  Way too hot for a bathroom.  The tile tub surround wasn’t horid, but it was reaching the end of its useful life and the 50-year-old, stained, chipped porcelin and steel tub had to go.

Oh, it also made me feel good to replace several of the studs in the wall that had been turned to tissue paper by termites.  Y’all got termites in FLA?

‘nyway, the sprucing up makes it very 2006.  Ten or 20 years from now it’ll probably look dated.

  5. *clap clap clap* It’s lovely, ‘mouse. I can just imagine the reverb. :-)

Have I got an offer for you: Saturday, June 3. Top of Queen Anne. An entire kitchen of old plaster (ceiling included) to be demolished. All the beer/wine/mojitos you care to drink. All the Dixie’s BBQ and Mexican chocolate cookies you care to eat. All the jam/chutney/pickles you can carry home. Tempted?

(That jar of blueberry chutney is on the kitchen counter. One way or another, it will be on its way to you by June 3.)
