Name that flower
Anyone know this flower? It used to grow wild on the hillside next to my WA home. The city arborist said something about it being threatened or endangered and being lucky to have it.
Looks to be a trillium.

Posted by 'mouse on 05/17 at 05:59 PMI have called up all my woodland creature friends and we are having a heated discussion regarding the tone in which your question should be read.
Seriously, what do you mean, what’s it good for? What’s any flower good for? Same thing that I imagine all those trees you love so much being good for.
The trillium bloom is so short-lived, that spotting it in some shaded, wooded area never fails to please me. Stumbling upon it in bloom is like spotting a fairy from the corner of your eye as it flits about, moving from tree to tree, or maybe catching a glimpse of the ghosts of two lovers as they stroll hand in hand along some forest path, overgrown now for centuries. The trillium reminds us, if anything, that there is strength in delicacy, and those willing to stop long enough to look may perhaps, if they are lucky, catch a glimpse of this truth, and having done so, find that they have somehow become better people.
Posted by Keith on 05/17 at 07:02 PMI clicked over here, saw your flower, and thought “ooh, trillium!” How lucky you were to have them near your home.
What’s it good for?!? Fortunately, Keith already has that covered, ‘cuz I’m so gobsmacked by the question as to be unable to do much more shake my head in puzzlement.
Posted by kimberly on 05/18 at 12:54 AMwell actually, I would call it a Pretty flower and it’s name is, um, Giancarlo. as to what it’s good for, well never you mind, ‘mouse.

Posted by e on 05/19 at 01:04 AMi would mistake it for a weed, but now e, you have me intrigued. just what the hell is it good for??
Posted by goliard on 05/26 at 11:59 AMYou question about the flower.. here is the answer it is a Trillium and it is protected to the point it has fines to pay if it is picked, it is our national flower as in Ontario....Canada hopefully this helps you.
Posted by kris on 06/04 at 10:03 PMIt is a Trillium, I do believe it is our provincial flower if I am not mistaken, but I have been known to be wrong before......but they mostly are white flowers and are on the endangered list. Hugs n’ Stuff, Lynne
